Sweet Darkness

When your eyes are tired
the world is tired also.

When your vision has gone,
no part of the world can find you.

Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.

There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.

The dark will be your home
tonight.

The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.

You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.

Give up all the other worlds
except the one to which you belong.

Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness
to learn

anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive

is too small for you.

Welcome to Sweet Darkness—

It has taken me a long time to ponder what would be worthy of a paid subscription that didn’t also go against my values around paywalling important educational material. I’ve bounced around the idea of art prints, exclusive video blogs, a sneak peek into my own personal sleep world, extra material and workbook downloads.

Each of those options felt a bit out of sync for me until I woke myself up from a deep slumber one night and dramatically scribbled on the notebook next to my bed. When I woke up, I could barely read what I wrote since I had let my chicken-claws scratch it in the dead of night.

“Ohhhh” I said as I made out the notes from whoever inhabits my body after-hours, “Sweet Darkness, of course!”

It feels like the perfect, right-sized compromise.

I hope you enjoy.
