Welcome Back to Space
Happy Wednesday Friends,
We’ve been on a reflective roll lately, looking at all of the tiny things we might want to consider as a new year is peeking its way around the corner. In mid-November we started with A Place Poem to get us into a creative space of noticing where 2025 has taken us. A few weeks ago we did a bit more intentional checking in with ourselves around what felt challenging this past year and what created a sense of ease. And for the first week of December, we did a mini-dive on how thoughtful boundaries help protect our rest.
Today, we’ll be continuing on this streak and taking another restful inventory so we can step into the new year with as much clarity and intention as we can.
A Rest Inventory
Looking Back
In the year of 2025,
What was my general energetic level?
How did I navigate this?
Is there anything I would have done differently?
What was the overall mood or tone of the year?
What did this mood or tone teach me?
If I had known this was the mood or the tone for my year, what would I have liked to tell my past-self to prepare?
What is my general affect as I reflect on this now?
What information is this giving me about myself?
What things in 2025…
Took the most energy from me?
Did I feel satisfied when I was tired? Or did I feel drained and unmotivated?
Was this an internal pull of energy? Or external?
What did I learn?
Gave me the most energy?
Was this a predictable boost or did it happen spontaneously?
Was it an internal energy boost? Or external?
What did this teach me?
Where do I wish I had more….
Space, rest, and solitude in my year?
How might that have changed my year if I had more of these experiences?
Connection, excitement, expansions in my year?
How might that have changed my year if I had more of these experiences?
Where did I find a good balance or a sense of harmony in my year?
What were the factors at play? Be as specific as you can.
Looking Forward
In the upcoming year ahead….
What am I most hoping to protect my time from?
Who are the people who I want to be careful about spending my time with?
Is there anyone I would like to stop spending time with all together?
Are there aspects of my job that I want to have more clear parameters with so that it doesn’t take up all of my best energy?
Are there tasks you can delegate?
Are there tasks you can eliminate?
Are there places you can collaborate?
Are there places you can compromise?
Are there any old habits you’d like to spend less time, energy, or attention on?
Is it something you can stop right away? Or will it take some time to wind down?
Do you need extra support in moving away from these habits? Who or what would be supportive resources to move away from these habits?
How do you think you might feel if you can reduce or eliminate some of these energetic spaces?
How do I most hope….
To feel energetically?
My overall ‘mood’ of the year is?
What am I most hoping to spend my energy on?
Who are the top 5 people who I want to spend most time with?
What are the 2 most important things in my job I’d like to engage with?
Are there 1-2 personal goals that feel important to spend time on? What are they?
How do you think you will feel if you spend your energy on these people, projects, and pursuits?
Based on my reflections from last year—
Do I want the same amount of space, solitude, and rest? More? Less?
How will I make sure I get the right-sized amount space in 2026?
Be Creative
As per usual, there is no right or wrong way to be with these reflections.
Get out a bottle of wine and talk about each one with your partner or best friend.
Journal them down with your favorite pen.
Pull out your biggest piece of paper and scribble down pictures and colors while thinking about each questions and trust that the wisdom is steeping in somewhere.
You do you, booboo.
You deserve to get a tiny step closer to the rest and vitality you crave.
If you want to share what’s bringing in ease, rest, and vitality—I’d love catch it with you. Hit reply if you’re finding something surprising to share.
Swirling in my own winter wonderings,
Dagny Rose
